These engines (designated 23L) had Bosch Electronic Diesel Control systems, where the mechanical injector system was controlled by a drive-by-wire electronic throttle to reduce emissions. The 300Tdi was replaced in 1998 by the 5-cylinder Td5, bringing to an end the line of Land Rover 4-cylinder engines that can be traced back to 1957.
I know the 300TDI engine's are more refined but i never hear good stories about them mainly overheating problems etc. What ever i decide on it will be getting rebuild before being fitted (new rings, gaskets, etc) There are plenty of people on here that have done this sort of trip so im hoping they can help me from there experience. Thank you
Hi not had this problem on my 300tdi but I have had issues with that exciter wire. Basically it may be worth your while following the wire back in the engine bay, if it's same as mine it goes across the front of the engine and then back along the driversside of the block and joins up with a bunch of other wires, they are likely to be taped together and possibly have a plastic cable tidy thing
